Art and Words

I occassionally write, too.

“The intersection in that piece is loaded to the brim with memories from a very adventurous time of my life, full of growth, change, new friendships and new marriage. While many people probably don't take note, I've always been visually obsessed with road signs, overpasses, stop lights, light and shadow. So, clearly nostalgia was the major draw to this painting.  That being said, I've seen plenty of other nostalgic artwork that I've never given a second thought about. It was the way you captured the light, a moment, a little square of time that compelled me to buy "One Way”. You have a great painting style but the way you compose your paintings is what really draws me in.”

30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge - Day 1

1/1/2018

Today's the day I start my 30 paintings in 30 days challenge with my group called the Artists Working Group. We are all lucky to have met through a workshop last year with Antrese Wood. Antrese is the artist and brain power behind The Savvy Painter. Although that "First Things First" workshop has ended, the artists I met through this group have continued to be a powerful support group and inspirational to me.

We've challenged ourselves to paint - according to how our work habits and our own studio schedules allow  - all during the month of January. One painter is working from memory, one is working on a large painting and posting snippets each day, another is working on small studies, another is exploring black and white within a theme. I have challenged myself to work with a limited palette and, at present and am doing alla prima portraits. I suckered a few of my family members into posing for photos during our Christmas annual Forced Family Fun celebration. I am hoping for 30 paintings but I already know there will be days when I can't and I won't paint so I will shoot for 30 and hope to get somewhere close.

I hope you follow along with my posts on Instagram @NanciTheArtist and follow our hashtags of #awgday1, #awgday2, etc. each day throughout the month as well as the general one, #awg30in30. I am also posting on FB @NanciCharpentierArt.

This first painting is of .... well, I'll let you guess.  Maybe that red hat will give it away. And for you LSU fans, I didn't paint the big "A" on it. You're welcome. She's beautiful either way.

So, here's where you might get a little more info about each day's painting and I hope to see you again tomorrow.
